The motion picture “Doctor Strange”, which hit the silver screen in November 2016 and was highly acclaimed by sci-fi enthusiasts, has experienced exciting minutes for watch enthusiasts as well.

I am sure many readers of Horobox have a sweet spot for Marvel Comics. Comic adapted movies can awaken pleasant feelings in our minds. Doctor Strange is undoubtedly one of the films in this category. Not only was the film widely acclaimed for its cinematic and visual richness, but it was also able to attract attention with its scenes full of watches.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual is the only watch that accompanies the doctor throughout the film.

In the film, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, our superhero Dr. Stephen Strange plays a successful brain surgeon. From time to time, the doctor who becomes antipathetic with his high level ego is a character who is accustomed to winning every term with professional success. In the following minute, a tragic traffic accident happens and the doctor partially loses his ability to control his fingers, and he continues trying to find a solution. Although I love to tell a movie, I choose to end it here as it’s not welcomed by the ones around me.

Let’s get to the main scene that interests us. When the doctor is dressed for an elegant reception, he opens a drawer full of watches to complete the tuxedo he is wearing. What’s in it..?

At the very beginning of the drawer is a white dialed Rolex Daytona 116520. A classic choice ... The gray dial watch next to it is a bit far from being identifiable. A dial with Roman numerals and a multi-piece bracelet are the details which we are familiar with certain Patek Philippe models. Right next to it, is Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Rouge. And the next one is a Tag Heuer Monaco Chronograph. When we go to the bottom row, the small-sized classic watch with a white dial does not give a detailed image that can still be defined. We cannot determine the brand and the model unfortunately again while NATO strap and the obsolete radium / tritium view in the hands give us a clue about the age of the watch.

While many timepieces in the box do not show themselves, there is one that has left its mark in the movie. Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual is the only watch that accompanies the doctor throughout the film. The model, worn by the doctor during the first scenes while he was on his way to the clinic, steals the role with its sapphire crystal being shattered.

JLC Ref 130842J, offered in a stainless steel case, measures 39mm x 9.2mm. We are talking about a handy and very stylish, complication model with a sapphire crystal and a water resistance of 50 meters. The timepiece is powered with the in-house self-winding Caliber Ref. 868/1. Thanks to the perpetual calendar function, we get a reward of precisely accurate calendar which requires no any additional setting for many years. The model, normally offered with a see-through sapphire crystal back, sports a solid caseback in the film. Of course, it was unthinkable to leave this field empty. The caseback bears a message “Time will tell you how much I love you ~ Christine“ will immediately be remembered by the ones who had the opportunity to watch the movie.
