Hublot is once again the guest of our Hands On corner with its sapphire crystal case model Big Bang UNICO Magic Sapphire (Ref. 411.JX.1170.RX), which was introduced earlier this year.
In line with the brand’s famous motto “Art of Fusion”, Hublot continues to push the boundaries of traditional watchmaking by using cutting edge technologies and unusual materials. Sapphire crystal, which has a special place among those alternative materials, reveals the capabilities of the brand in processing such materials.
Hublot Big Bang UNICO Magic Sapphire is the third model designed with a sapphire crystal case. The first model was the was the Big Bang Sapphire which was introduced in 2016 and attracted a great deal of interest from watch enthusiasts and authorities. Big Bang Sapphire, which was completely designed referring to the transparent concept, was followed by the Big Bang Sapphire All Black which looked like its exact negative due to its stealth appearance. The model we have here is the last version offered in a sapphire crystal case.
Big Bang UNICO Magic Sapphire seems to share the same platform with the previous sapphire crystal case models. However, it actually features some major updates and refinements. The model is offered in a classic 45mm Big Bang case made of transparent sapphire crystal. Unlike the previous version, Big Bang UNICO Magic Sapphire is not designed with the same multi-component structure. Refined with less parts and complexity, the case does not feature the titanium parts that were used in its predecessors either. Last but not least, the multi-part bezel and caseback are updated with less complicated ones. All those upgrades provided the new model’s case a more transparent look and improved durability.
Big Bang UNICO Magic comes with a skeleton style dial. Designed mainly with contrasting black and anthracite tones, the dial is equipped with big Arabic numeral hour markers and sword style hands. The red accents add some sportiness to the dial while the exposed parts of the movement provide an industrial look.
The model is powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber HUB 1242. Beside the time keeping function, the self-winding movement is equipped with a date display and a column wheel chronograph module with Flyback feature. The movement beats at 4Hz and offers 72 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
Hublot Big Bang UNICO Magic Sapphire (Ref. 411.JX.1170.RX) comes on a contrasting black rubber strap secured with a Hublot signed folding clasp made of titanium.
The model is a limited edition with a span of 500 units only and available at of € 57,100. We would like to thank Quadran Boutique, where we had the opportunity to see this model in person, for their usual support and hospitality.
