Oris introduced its new limited edition model designed for Carl Brashear, the first African American diver and the first amputee Master Diver in US Navy history.
Oris is a brand known for its models that push the boundaries of their category, both in design and engineering. With the support of its deep-rooted history, Oris, which can be considered as the milestone of the watchmaking industry for many years, reinforces its rightful reputation with its new model Carl Brashear Cal.401 Limited Edition.
The new model comes in a 40mm diameter case made of bronze alloy. Oris is not the brand that started the trend of diving watches with bronze cases. However, we can say that it is one of the brands that produce the most exclusive models of this trend. On the front of the case, which is made entirely of matte surfaces, there is a diving bezel made of the same material as well as a sapphire crystal, and a massive case back with engravings emphasizing the theme of the model on the back. Designed to withstand 100 meters of water pressure, the model's inadequacy for deep missions can be a bit confusing.
The dial, which has toned hands and indices compatible with the case on a dark blue background, offers sufficient legibility in almost all conditions thanks to the Super-LumiNOVA phosphor application. In the sub-dial reserved for the small seconds, the 5-day power reserve of the movement that gives life to the model is also emphasized.
The new model is powered by the Cal.401, an extension of the Cal.400 family introduced in 2020, developed and produced in-house. The central rotor automatic movement operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and provides 120 hours / 5 days of power reserve when fully wound thanks to its double barrel system. The movement, which comes with a 10-year warranty, also offers magnetic field resistance in ISO 764 standards.
Limited to only 2000 units, the model comes with a hand-sewn navy blue NATO strap, specially designed by Erika Originals, and a bronze buckle. The list price for the model is CHF 3,900.
