Min. ReadElegance, simplicity, and timeless values—Henry Cavill becomes Longines' new brand ambassador. Read our exclusive interview with the acclaimed actor on Horobox.
What drew you to Longines, and how does it align with your values?Longines watches are not only beautiful due to the brand’s renowned classic and understated elegance, but they also carry a rich history filled with stories of pioneers. Longines was at the forefront during a true age of adventure, when exploring the world still felt legendary.
If you had the chance to design a Longines watch, what would it be like?
Honestly, my creative side is too meticulous to answer this question here. If I ever had the honor of designing a Longines watch, I would take all the time necessary to make sure it feels “right”—at least in my eyes.
The spirit of Longines has always been driven by aviation and sports. Does this speak to you?
Yes, very much so. Aviation has always been an adventure, especially in the recent past. It was the pioneering path to the unknown. And I’ve always admired sports—since I often have to perform athletically in my acting roles, I deeply understand the dedication required to achieve top-level performance. It gives you not only respect for athletes but also a profound appreciation for how crucial it is to measure even a single second accurately.
What does elegance mean to you, and how do you reflect that in your life?
Elegance is beauty without flamboyance. As for reflecting it, I try not to focus too much on my own elegance, as I believe that can be counterproductive. Still, I do my best to remain mindful of it in my behavior and both personal and professional interactions.
What were you hoping to learn or experience during your visit to the Longines headquarters?
So much! Longines has an incredible history—it would take weeks to tell it all. The craftsmanship is equally fascinating. This might sound cliché, but seeing how these watches are made and how original parts from a hundred years ago are carefully cataloged and preserved for repairs is truly mesmerizing. I believe there’s a certain peace in watchmaking—a quiet reverence for the task.
What do you look for in a watch—design, function, craftsmanship, heritage...?
Ideally, all of the above. Fortunately, Longines offers all of these!
Do you consider yourself a watch enthusiast, and what kind of timepieces appeal to you?
My passion for watches is still relatively new, but I’ve always admired beautifully crafted timepieces.
Is there a particular aspect of watchmaking that stands out to you?
Watchmaking and timekeeping have such a vast history. These days, it’s easy to forget how essential timekeeping once was to navigation. Back then, even the smallest error could mean the difference between life and death.
Who introduced you to watches, and where does your current taste come from?
I can’t say I was officially introduced to watches. My taste comes from how I was raised: strive for excellence in all things, but never boast about it.
Your profession often involves traveling across time zones. How hard is it to maintain a routine, relationships, and everyday habits?
Routine life? I’m not sure I remember what that is! Honestly, it can be tough. Having a daily routine is not a luxury I usually get. But traveling to faraway places and getting to tell stories at this level makes it all worth it.
The campaign follows the modern traveler through cities and continents. Where in the world do you feel most at home, and why?
At my home in the UK. I’ve found a very special place that resonates with me in many ways.
This campaign poetically suggests that time is a shared language among people. Is there someone whose time you always keep track of, no matter where you are in the world?
Yes. Knowing what part of the day someone is in helps create an instant connection. Even without the details, you can put yourself in their shoes and be with them for a moment.
What does time mean to you—personally or philosophically?
It means many things. Sometimes I feel like there’s never enough time; other times it feels like there’s just the right amount. We can use time in many ways, and I try to make good use of it, regardless of how I “spend” it. Interesting term, “spend,” isn’t it?
How do you make time for yourself or unwind?
I really enjoy video games. They’re a great way to disconnect and immerse yourself in a story. I also love spending time in nature. There’s a magic to the place I live that’s hard to describe.
What has been the most important moment of your life so far?
The birth of my daughter and moving into the home where we’ll live forever—my partner, our daughter, our dogs, and I.
In an era dominated by speed and technology, which timeless values do you think are worth preserving?
Integrity. Hard work. Honesty.
If you could stop time, which era would you return to?
That’s a tough one! I think we all romanticize the past a bit, but those times were often far more difficult than today. Still, in the broadest sense—Ancient Greece, Rome, or Egypt would be extraordinary periods to witness.
