Because the first patent registration of Tourbillon, which is perhaps one of the most talked-about complications of traditional luxury watchmaking, has been made on a June 26th. Tourbillon, which has been developed and manufactured by Abraham-Louis Breguet that is shown as one of the most important figures in the history watchmaking, is celebrating its 217th birthday this year.

Breguet honors its legendary founder Abraham-Louis Breguet with an exclusive event that will take place at the brand’s Zurich, Taipei and New York stores. Throughout the event, which will display the surviving samples from 35 pieces of timepieces that have been manufactured by Abraham-Louis Breguet himself, the watch enthusiasts will have the opportunity to see a variety of up to date models as well. Without a doubt, Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367 is the candidate to be the star of the show.
The model, which tributes to the glorious past of the brand, was debuted at the Baselworld fair this year and it was highly acclaimed for bringing Breguet signature features like the off-centered dial, large Arabic numeral indices written in Breguet style fonts under the same roof.
In the meantime, let me remind you that the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat is technically not a new model. In fact, it has been among the brand’s product line since 2013. However, in the version introduced at Baselworld 2018, there are updates like the addition of Grand Feu enamel dial and the cancellation of the power reserve indicator.
Offered in platinum or 18K pink gold options, the model is powered by the manufacture Caliber Ref. 581 which is only 3mm thick. Operating at 4Hz (28.800vph) and offering a power reserve of 80 hours when fully wound, the self-winding movement and its peripherical designed oscillating rotor can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystal display case back.
