Cartier, which is one of the first names that come to minds regarding not only luxury watchmaking but the luxury concept itself, announced a pair of new series that bring back the Tonneau shaped cases from the early days of the Maison.
Let’s share a little detail before introducing new models; Cartier Privé is a tribute to Collection Privé Cartier Paris (CPCP), a line of high-end mechanical watches produced for a certain time mainly aiming the collectors and loyal users of the brand. Therefore, it is important to remember that the models we have are special even for Cartier standards.
The new models are offered in Tonneau style shaped cases in two sub-series and two case materials as Platinum and 18K pink gold.
The first model in the new collection is the Cartier Privé Tonneau Large Model that comes in an oversized case measuring 46.1mm x 26.2mm x 8.8mm. Featuring signature Cartier details like blued hands and stylized Roman numeral indexes, the dials for the models are silver for the Platinum version and champagne for the 18K pink gold version. Both models are powered by the Maison’s manufacture hand-wound movement Caliber 1917 MC offering 38 hours of power reserve time. Secured by Cartier folding clasps, the strap colors are gray for the Platinum and brown for the 18K pink gold version.
The platinum model (Ref. WGTN0005) is limited to 100 pieces, while the 18K pink gold model (Ref. WGTN0006) seems to be a standard version.
The second model in the newly introduced collection is Cartier Privé Tonneau Skeleton Dual Time and the shape of the case is not the whole story. Offered in the same Tonneau style, this time the case measures 37.8mm x 24mm. Available in Platinum (Ref. WHTN0006) and 18K pink gold (Ref. WHTN0005), the new model is powered by the manufacture Caliber 9919 MC which is designed in an exclusive architecture to fit the dual time concept. The manual winding movement, which offers a power reserve time of 60 hours when fully wound, can display two different time zones with a pair vertically placed dials. To make this concept possible, all the wheels of the gear train are aligned between 12 and 6 o’clock, and the rest of the components are fitted within the curved contours of the case.
The new model are accompanied with dark blue and gray alligator straps that are secured by Cartier folding clasps. Each model is limited to a span of 100 units.
