Corum is the guest of our Hands-On corner today with the full black version of their highly acclaimed Admiral 42 Collection, limited to 100 units.
Admiral's Cup model family, which became almost identical with the brand, emerged as a product group that came to the fore with its water resistance in the 1960s and aimed at yachting fans. The model, which attracted attention with its square form in those years, gained a 12-sided case design that continues today and became the symbol detail of the collection in 1983. The model, which has gained a well-deserved reputation among yacht enthusiasts with its original dial that includes nautical pennants, is also one of the first models that come to mind among maritime-themed watches.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010, the model family was re-introduced to the likes of watch lovers with its features that have been renewed following the requirements of the time. The result was the Admiral Legend 42, a new model that attracted attention with its relatively compact dimensions as well as modern details, which took its place among the most admired models of the brand.
Admiral 42 Full Black, offered in a jet-black silhouette for the first time, unlike the colorful versions in the model family. The 12-sided case made of stainless steel measures 42mm in diameter and 9.50mm in height. The case, the winding crown and the metal part of the case back are PVD coated in black. Equipped with anti-glare coated sapphire crystals on both sides, the case is water-resistant to 50 meters.
The model comes with a brass base dial blackened per the 'full black' concept that dominates the overall design. Even the pennants, among the symbol details of the model, are also finished in anthracite tone following the concept. Dauphine style hands are prepared with both black PVD coating and white Super-LumiNOVA, which suit the general theme and offer high readability.
Corum Admiral 42 Full Black model ticks with the movement Caliber CO 395. 27-jewels self-winding movement beats in a frequency of 4Hz / 28.800vph and offers a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. Despite being pretty plain and free of decoration, the movement is still enjoyable with its blackened oscillating rotor through the transparent case back.
The model comes on a black vulcanized rubber strap decorated with Corum emblems. A black PVD coated folding clasp secures the strap.
I can say that I quite like the Corum Admiral 42 Full Black model. Offering a unique and cult design in such a monochrome color palette is not every brand’s cup of coffee. The beautifully composed dial has a large share in this success. In summary, I think the concept of 'full black' suits this legendary model flawlessly, which is among the iconic designs of luxury watchmaking with its nautical theme.
