Credor Locomotive GCCR997

The Credor Locomotive GCCR997 is making its debut as a standout piece in the brand's permanent collection, offering an updated twist on its iconic design with a stunning green-toned hexagonal dial. While the rest of the watch remains faithful to its Gérald Genta-inspired origins, the new green dial breathes fresh life into the timepiece.

Originally launched in 1979, the Locomotive was a product of a collaboration between Genta and Seiko's Reijiro Hattori. Genta, famous for designing the Royal Oak, Nautilus, and Ingenieur, also extended his creative reach to Japan, resulting in this distinct piece for Seiko’s high-end Credor line. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Credor, the brand introduced the limited-edition Locomotive GCCR999 in 2024, which attracted attention for both its remarkable craftsmanship and its aesthetics. Now, the Locomotive GCCR997, which follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, brings an even more striking new look.

The 2024 model remains nearly identical to the original, with a 38.8mm hexagonal titanium case, a design that balances brushed and polished surfaces for a sophisticated finish. The hexagonal bezel, fastened by six screws, continues the geometric theme, while the ribbed screw-down crown at 4 o'clock retains the motif. The solid caseback and sapphire crystal provide durability, ensuring the watch can withstand up to 100m of water resistance.

What sets the new GCCR997 apart is its green dial, inspired by the green signal lights of railways, featuring textured green hexagons with a striped finish. The woven-like effect catches the light, creating a mesmerizing honeycomb effect. The hour and minute hands, along with the applied indices, maintain the understated elegance of the original design, while a framed date window at 3 o'clock provides added functionality.

At its heart lies the Credor CR01 automatic movement, based on Seiko’s 6L35, offering a reliable 45-hour power reserve. The titanium bracelet mirrors the watch’s design, with hexagonal links that echo the case’s geometry and a three-fold clasp that secures the piece comfortably.

The Credor Locomotive GCCR997 will not be a limited edition like the 2024 release. Instead, it will join the brand’s permanent collection in May 2025, giving watch enthusiasts more opportunities to experience this iconic design with a fresh, vibrant twist.
