Min. ReadHermès introduces the Slim d’Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider, a striking pocket watch that combines modern art with traditional craftsmanship. This unique piece features a champlevé enamel cover, showcasing a contemporary steel horse and rider design by Dutch artist Viktor Hachmang, originally created for an Hermès scarf.
Hermès has a long history of integrating equestrian themes into its designs, stemming from its origins as a saddlery in 19th-century Paris. This latest creation adds a twist with its motorbike motif, reflecting the idea of "steel horses" in a novel way. The pocket watch retains the elegant lines of Philippe Delhotal’s Slim d’Hermès case and is driven by a slim micro-rotor movement.
Previously, Hermès has successfully transitioned scarf designs into watch dials, as seen in the Arceau Mon Premier Galop and Arceau Costume de Fête models. This new Slim d’Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider continues this tradition with Hachmang’s distinctive graphics, merging Japanese art with comic book aesthetics.
The watch’s cover, crafted in champlevé enamel, features intricate designs created by carving small cells into metal and filling them with colored glass powders. The result is a dynamic image of a motorcyclist, with a helmet and Hermès scarf, riding a futuristic bike. The background includes geometric patterns and the façade of Hermès' flagship store in Paris.
Underneath the protective cover lies a refined white enamel dial with hand-painted red numerals, designed by French graphic designer Philippe Apeloig. The Slim d’Hermès Pocket Mysterious Rider boasts a 45mm 18k white gold case with stirrup-shaped lugs, housing the ultra-thin automatic calibre H1950 by Vaucher. This movement is only 2.6mm thick, operates at 21,600vph, and offers a 42-hour power reserve. The caseback reveals the decorated movement through a sapphire crystal.
Limited to three pieces, this exquisite pocket watch is presented in a matte Rouge H alligator pouch.
