The perpetual calendar complication addresses the intricacies of our calendar system, which differs from the solar year by nearly 6 hours. This discrepancy, caused by the Earth's orbit around the sun, poses a challenge for watchmakers. Unlike a simple date display, a perpetual calendar automatically adjusts for varying month lengths and leap years until the year 2100.
Powering the 2024 Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar is the Calibre 868, meticulously crafted in-house by Jaeger-LeCoultre. This latest-generation movement features enhancements such as a redesigned escapement and pallets, minimizing friction and extending the power reserve to a robust 70 hours. This extended autonomy allows wearers to set the watch aside for an entire weekend without needing adjustments.
The design refinements of the perpetual dress watch include a subtly modernized case with slimmer, elongated lugs for enhanced comfort. The dial layout maintains symmetry and balance, with refined sub-dials for improved legibility.
