Min. ReadThe LONGINES SPIRIT FLYBACK collection embodies the pioneering spirit that has always guided the iconic winged hourglass brand. Now, this collection expands with two new models featuring 18-carat yellow gold and 18-carat rose gold details, each presented in a robust steel case. With green or brown dial options, these distinctive pilot's watches boast high precision, thanks to their exclusive Longines caliber, certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) and resistant to magnetic fields.
As of 2024, the Longines Spirit Flyback series continues to evolve with striking new models featuring ceramic bezel inserts, green or brown dials, and cases made from a combination of 18-carat gold and steel. Introduced last year, this series breathes new life into Longines’ rich heritage in pilot's watches. The flyback chronographs are a testament to Longines' pioneering role in this technology. The brand, adorned with its winged hourglass logo, introduced its first model with a flyback function in 1925 and filed for a patent shortly after. When the patent was granted on June 16, 1936, it marked a significant first in the world of horology.
The flyback complication, which played a revolutionary role in the conquest of the skies, facilitates navigation by allowing pilots to time different flight phases consecutively without having to stop and reset the chronograph each time.
The Longines Spirit Flyback owes its superior precision to the in-house Longines L791.4 caliber. Noteworthy features of this movement include innovative components such as a silicon balance spring, which provides enhanced resistance to magnetic fields—ten times the required standard under ISO 764. Boasting a power reserve of up to 68 hours, this movement is officially certified by COSC. The transparent case back reveals the intricate craftsmanship of the caliber, as well as the finely engraved yellow or rose gold oscillating weight, which proudly displays the globe emblem of the Longines Spirit collection.
For these two new models, the green dial version features an 18-carat yellow gold crown and pushers, while the brown dial variant comes with 18-carat rose gold details. The bidirectional rotating bezels, made even more eye-catching by yellow or rose gold accents, are complemented by ceramic inserts in green or brown. The shaded matte dials, completed with multi-layered anti-reflective sapphire crystals, feature a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The hands and numerals, made from yellow or rose gold with Super-LumiNova® old radium coating, ensure optimal legibility under any conditions, whether on land or in the air.
Both models are water-resistant up to 10 bar (100 meters) and are available with color-coordinated green and brown leather straps, equipped with a micro-adjustable double-locking folding clasp for a perfect fit.
