Montblanc introduced the latest member of its highly acclaimed Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Collection, which is inspired by the legendary watchmaker Minerva, featuring a bronze case and a salmon colored dial.
The new model is the third version of the Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Collection, which is not only acclaimed by the watch enthusiasts but authorities as well, equipped with a case made of the highly popular alternative material of nowadays bronze and a retro look dial finished in rich salmon dial.
Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Bronze Salmon Dial shares the same platform with its two predecessors. The new model is offered in a bronze case measuring 44mm in diameter. Thanks to its relatively narrow bezel and strong lugs, the case looks a tad bigger making it an oversized watch with a vintage look but considering that Minerva’s designs of late 1920s have been based on pocket watches, the size is actually quite accurate.
The case is made of copper-based bronze alloy. Thanks to the aluminum used in the alloy, the case sports a bright, yellowish tone when it’s new. Depending on the using conditions, the color turns in to a muted, darker tone. This oxidation is the natural results of the alloy reacting with air providing an individual patina which is highly admired in these days by the watch aficionados.
Water resistant to 30 meters, the case is equipped with AR coated scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. The front sapphire crystal is domed to mimic the era-matching domed hesalite crystals. The oversized onion shaped winding crown is also another detail that boosts the overall vintage look.
The dial of the model is finished in dark salmon color with radial brushing which makes the dial look pretty different under light from certain angles. The interesting thing about the model is its dial color and case material combination as most bronze models come with contrasting darker color dials like the famous Bronzo series of Officine Panera. Therefore a salmon color dial in a bronze case does not sound like the best combo. However, it’s hard to make a comment before seeing the timepiece in person.
Finished in classic Bi-Compax lay out, the sub-counter hands and the central second hand on the dial are finished in blue. The hour and minute hands are designed in accordance with the vintage concept and accompanied with Arabic numeral hour markers filled with dark green SuperLuminova phosphor material.
The new model is powered with the Montblanc Caliber Ref. MB M16.29 like the previous versions. Based on a Minerva pocket watch caliber from late 1920s, the movement offers era-matching mechanical and visual details that can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystal display caseback.
Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Bronze Salmon Dial (Ref. 117064) is offered on a tan alligator strap manufactured at the brand’s leather goods atelier in Pelletteria – Florence. The strap is secured with a Montblanc signed tang buckle made of bronze.
Like the previous version, Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Bronze Salmon Dial (Ref. 117064) is limited to a span of 100 units only and offered with a price tag of € 27,500.
