Omega, signed on to the 2017 – 2018 edition of the race as the Official Timekeeper of Volvo Ocean Race, introduced its latest limited-edition model designed exclusively for the occasion.
The brands presented its Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black Limited-Edition Chronograph model via a special event at Newport on May 17th. The brand’s new sailing ambassadors, talented athletes Blair Tuke and Peter Burling were also introduced as well.
The new model is limited to only 73 units, referring to the first year of the Volvo Ocean Race organization in 1973. The model is offered in a 45.5mm case crafted from a single block of ceramic to withstand the possible extreme conditions of ocean sailing. The case is equipped with a solid case back featuring the brand’s patented Naidad Lock system on the rear side and an AR coated scratch resistant sapphire crystal at the front side as well as a Helium Release Valve at 10 o’clock. The unidirectional bezel is made of black ceramic as well sporting a liquid metal insert. The first 15 minutes of the bezel insert is detailed with red rubber. The case is water resistant to 600 meters.
Designed in the Bi-Compax chronograph lay-out, the mat brushed black ceramic dial is accompanied with 18K white gold hands and indices. A red chapter around the 3 o’clock sub-dial reads “Volvo Ocean Race 2017/18 Limited Edition” with the assigned production number of the 73 watches.
The new model is powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber Ref. 9900. Self-winding movement is equipped with the patented Co-Axial escapement and Master Chronometer certified. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Volvo Ocean Race Limited Edition is offered on a black rubber strap that is secured with an Omega signed folding clasp made of black ceramic.
