Oris, among the independent names in the Swiss watch industry, introduced the new Big Crown ProPilot X Caliber 115. The model, which shows the brand’s experience and expertise in watchmaking, draws attention with its price tag reflecting the Oris philosophy.
“Real watches for real people”... The long-term slogan that we remember from Oris advertisements is enough to summarize the whole philosophy of the brand. The brand, which took heavy damage during the Quartz crisis in the 80s and subsequently sold twice, is today proud to get back its Manufacture status.
The brand, which has won the nickname “Quartz Proof” since it has not included battery-powered models in its line-up since 1992, has been developing its in-house movement since 2005. Celebrating its 110th anniversary in 2014, Oris introduced a new model family equipped with the in-house Caliber 110, after a decade-long R&D period. The movement, which attracted attention with its whopping 10-day power reserve, powered the anniversary series consisting of two versions limited to only 110 pieces each, one of which is in stainless steel and the other in 18K gold.
As a result of the long R & D process, the movement platform had a very successful architecture. Aware of this, the brand has added features such as date (Caliber 111), GMT (Caliber 112), calendar (Caliber 113) and 24-hour indicator (Caliber 114) to its new movement in time. The movement that responded to each modification with perfect performance has once again succeeded to make the brand proud with its latest version, Caliber 115.
Oris, who preferred to use a modern and industrial design language for its new movement, took great care to ensure that every component of the model was in perfect harmony. Let’s take a close look at the model, which fully deserves to be called “brand new”...
The new model comes with a 44mm diameter case, which will undoubtedly offer a bold wrist presence. Made of ultra-light titanium alloy, the case does not sacrifice comfort with the help of ergonomically formed lugs and integrated bracelet/strap design. The case is equipped with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and is waterproof up to 100 meters, which is adequate value for a modern sports watch. The slim bezel and the winding crown decorated with turbine-look pattern offers a dynamic look.
The most prominent feature of the Caliber 115 is that it is a skeleton-themed movement. Almost the entire movement is visible from the front of the case. The anthracite-tone darkened movement components following the titanium case (and bracelet) material emphasize the concept of the model inspired by modern architecture. Super LumiNOVA phosphor-filled hands and indexes provide optimal legibility in virtually any environment, while minimally designed text and markings highlight the simple yet functional identity of the model.
The new model is powered by the Caliber 115, which is a hand-wound movement like its predecessors. Attracting attention with its 10 days (240 hours) power reserve and oversized barrel, the movement offers center hands for hours and minutes, small seconds between 7 and 8 o’clock, non-linear power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, fine timing and stop-second devices. 38 jewels movement, which is visible through the sapphire crystals on both sides, tributes to the brand’s innovative side with its modern designed components.
The Oris Big Crown ProPilot X Caliber 115 is available in two different options: an integrated titanium bracelet (6900.00 EUR) and a black leather strap (6400.00 EUR) with titanium end links.
