TAG Heuer has quietly introduced a striking new addition to its Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon line. First launched in 2016, the original model captivated the watch world with its in-house Heuer 02T movement, featuring an integrated chronograph and tourbillon regulator, all at an aggressive price of CHF 15,000. To mark the 60th anniversary of the Carrera chronograph in 2023, TAG Heuer released a more refined 42mm version with a glass box crystal and a classical closed dial, showcasing the tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

The latest release is a Blue-Panda model with a two-tone blue and white dial, now available in a limited run of just 50 pieces. The design is said to evoke the “pure and bright atmosphere of the Alps,” featuring a white circular-brushed dial background contrasted by recessed blue chronograph counters at 9 and 3 o’clock with snailed interiors and crisp white markings. The blue flange with minute/second markers is complemented by a bright red central chronograph seconds hand.

In keeping with its classic aesthetic, the luminescence is minimal, with a thin strip of Super-LumiNova on the rhodium-plated central hour and minute hands and the pips above the applied hour markers. The one-minute tourbillon at 6 o’clock is held in place by an open-worked three-spoked bridge.

The 42mm case, water-resistant to 100 meters, features signature piston-style pushers, angular lugs, and a combination of brushed and polished surfaces. The glass box crystal pays homage to the domed hesalite crystals of the 1970s Carrera watches.

Powered by the in-house automatic caliber TH20-09, an evolution of the Heuer 02 redesigned by Carole Forestier-Kasapi, the new column-wheel chronograph movement offers bidirectional winding, a redesigned gear train for reduced rotor noise, and a five-year warranty. Operating at 4Hz, the COSC-certified movement delivers a robust 65-hour power reserve. The watch is completed with a blue rally-style perforated leather strap and a steel folding clasp.
