Baume & Mercier Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar

We put our Hands On the beautiful and elegant Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar ( Ref. 10280) from one of the oldest players in the Swiss Watch Industry: Baume et Mercier.

We start with the case as usual. Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar ( Ref. 10280)’s case offers a two tone design. The beautiful and bold case of the timepiece is dominated by stainless steel in full brushed form. The bezel is made 18K rose gold adding a balanced elegance and classic look to the overall design.

The case measures 43mm x 12mm. We might say that those dimensions are a tad bigger than it should be as the watch offers a strong dress chronograph look. On the other hand, the large case feels quite comfortable on the wrist. Considering the fact that men’s watches of today are still large, 43mm can even be a reason for preference.

Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar ( Ref. 10280) sports double sapphire crystals on both sides. The front crystal is treated with anti-reflective coating.

The watch rates at WR50M level which is a normal value for a dress chronograph.

We are safe to say the Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar ( Ref. 10280) is full of functions. Despite the lack of hi-end complications, the timepiece features many handy functions you would hardly expect from a dress chronograph. The winding crown and the chronograph pushers are located at the right side of the watch. There is also another button at the left side of the case which sets the date function. The elliptical form of the chronograph pushers add a nice touch of classic look and match with the rest of the design nicely.

The dial offers a busy look due to its 8 hands, 3 sub-dials and 3 windows. What we have here is the indications of the time, a complete calendar and a chronograph. However, the brilliantly designed dial lay out ( with the help of different colored hands ) manages to keep the classic and elegance look of the watch successfully.

As we understand from the dial lay out ( and the noisy, wobbling rotor ) the movement is based on an ETA Valjoux 7751. That reliable movement beats at 28.800vph and offers 48h of power reserve when fully wound. The movement can be seen through the transparent caseback however, the decoration of the movement is quite basic as expected referring to the price range of the timepiece.

Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar ( Ref. 10280) comes on beautiful brown crocodile strap with a stainless steel folding buckle. Thanks to the concave form of the end side of the strap, we do not see any gap between the strap and the lug and enjoy the nicely integrated design.

I would strongly suggest the Clifton Chronograph Complete Calendar ( Ref. 10280) to the watch aficionados looking for a nice, classic looking dress chronograph with a modern size and a handful of functions.
