Breitling, one of the most important participants of Baselworld 2017, presented the renovated face of its highly acclaimed Superocean Heritage Collection.
Today, we have the bronze color dial version with 42mm diameter case. Before going through the review, let’s have a fast look at the collection’s past and present.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the Superocean collection has undergone a lot of updates since its first introduction in 1957. With the latest update made this year, the modernized version of the original Superocean model produced in 1957 is getting ready to take its place in the showcase with the “Heritage II” name.
The new Superocean Heritage II comes in three different versions. The three handed models are offered in two case sizes as 42mm and 46mm. Additionally, the new collection also features a chronograph version offered in a 46mm case.
There are a few noteworthy changes within the new Heritage collection. The hour and minute hands are revised to look more similar to the original Heritage model of 1957.
Another change that attracts attention is about the winding crown. The crown is updated with a thicker one which is easier to operate. The bezel on the new model is also updated with a ceramic one instead of the old stainless steel bezel.
The Heritage II collection will be available with black, blue, cream and bronze dial colors. The new dials have the date display located at 6 o’clock unlike the previous versions which have the display at 3 o’clock. All models are water resistant to 200 meters.
All versions are powered with the same Caliber Breitling B20. Self-winding movement beats at 4Hz and offers an impressive power reserve of 70 hours when fully wound. Let me remind you that this COSC certified movement is designed and manufactured in collaboration with Rolex. In fact, Caliber B20 used in those timepieces is based on the Tudor Caliber Ref. MT5612. Another reminder; this collaboration covers the movements only.
The new collection is offered with a variety of strap and bracelet options. Besides calf and alligator leather strap options, you can go for Aero and Ocean Racer style rubber straps and a mesh bracelet made of stainless steel.
The list price for the Breitling Superocean Heritage II varies according to the size of the case and the strap/bracelet choice. The one we have here today is priced at 4,880 CHF.
