Particularly with its Admiral’s Cup series, Corum is one of the iconic brands of the watch industry. Here we are with the latest edition of the cult Golden Bridge collection presented at Baselworld 2017: Corum Golden Bridge Rectangle.
The Golden Bridge collection, which was first released in 1980, is known as one of the brand’s flag ship collections. The collection, which is identified with its in-line vertical movement and sapphire crystal sandwich dial, introduced a new version created by the famous designed Dino Modolo. The new model tributes to the collection’s early versions with its rectangular shaped case.
The new model is offered in an Art Deco case measuring 29.5mm x 42.2mm. The case, which is made of 18K pink gold, is 9.3mm thick which makes it a comfortable wearer. The case, which reminds us the JLC Reverso models with its lug shape, sports scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and it is water resistant to 30 meters. Due to the unique form of the movement, the pink gold winding crown sits at 6 o’clock position.
There is a pair of pink gold accents on both sides of the case designed with stylized Roman numerals as hour markers placed between two sapphire crystals. Time is displayed by hours and minutes only through rhodium plated hands which helps the legibility of the dial with their contrasting color scheme. When you look at the watch, it’s easy to see that the priority is the design rather than the usability.
The model is powered with the brand’s in-house Caliber Ref. CO113. Hand-wound movement features a bridge that works like the main plate where all the components are placed vertically. The bridge, which is made of 18K pink gold as well, features motifs and the brand’s name engraved in the middle. Thanks to the sapphire crystals on both sides, the movement can be enjoyed while working. The movement beats at 4Hz and offers a power reserve of 40 hours when fully wound. The movement features the collection’s trademark energy transfer feature from its spring barrel at 6 o’clock to the escapement at 12 o’clock.
The new model is presented with a brown alligator strap and a folding clasp made of 18K pink gold.
The model, which is planned to be offered for sale at a price tag of 36.900,00 USD (USA list), seems to be a perfect collector’s piece for the watch aficionados with its unique mechanism, the pink gold Art Deco case and sapphire sandwich dial which redefines the "skeleton dial" concept.
