Grand Seiko Evolution 9: Introducing the Hand-Wound Hi-Beat SLGW003 "Birch Bark"
Grand Seiko introduces the SLGW003 "Birch Bark," a refined addition to the Evolution 9 collection featuring the brand's first hand-wound hi-beat caliber in 50 years.
Following the success of the White Birch collection, Grand Seiko expands its Evolution 9 lineup with the SLGW003, offering a more compact and elegant option with avant-garde mechanics blended with tradition. The SLGW003 maintains the collection's design language while introducing a slimmer case and hand-wound movement for a distinguished aesthetic.
With a 38.6mm diameter and 9.95mm thickness, the SLGW003 is designed for modern dress wear, complementing suits and fine blazers with its compact and thin profile. Crafted from Brilliant Hard Titanium, the case boasts a lightweight yet durable construction, accentuated by Zaratsu polishing for a refined finish.
The dial of the SLGW003 features a horizontal pattern inspired by the forests near the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, with redefined markers and hands treated with finesse. The blued central seconds hand adds a touch of classicism, while the absence of a date display enhances the dial's clean aesthetic.
Powering the SLGW003 is the hand-wound hi-beat Caliber 9SA4, developed from the automatic 9SA5 with a high frequency of 5Hz and twin-barrel architecture providing an 80-hour power reserve. The movement's redesign includes new bridges, a transversal bridge for balance and hairspring stability, showcasing Grand Seiko's attention to detail and classic features.
The SLGW003 is released as part of the permanent collection and will be available from Grand Seiko Salons and Boutiques starting August 1st, 2024. Additionally, a limited edition gold version, the SLGW002, will be exclusively available from Grand Seiko boutiques, with only 80 pieces produced.
