Greubel Forsey QP à Équation

Greubel Forsey QP à Équation, which received the 'Calendar Watch' award at GPHG 2017, now meets the watch lovers with its 18K red gold case and chocolate dial version. The brand, which has re-defined the Perpetual Calendar with its QP à Équation model, pushes the limits of mechanical watchmaking.

We shared the complication of "Equation of Time", in this article previously. An equation of time watch shows the difference between "true" solar time (that of nature) and "mean" solar time (that of Man). Integrating the Perpetual Calendar into the Equation of Time, Greubel Forsey QP à Équation brings practical functions and indications that increase clarity. While offering this feature, the brand has simplified the full calendar display and made it adjustable by the two-way rotating crown. Despite many indicators and functions, Greubel Forsey's Mechanical Computer can be used as simple as setting the date feature.

Demonstrating complex structures by simplifying them normally creates some technical difficulties. Greubel Forsey developed a coding mechanism called 'Mechanical Computer' to overcome these technical difficulties. In this patented Mechanical Computer system, a series of cams with movable levers slide the sub-dials on the dial and the case back. The moon cam shifts the moon displayed in the front window and moves the disc of Equation of Time to the back. The year cam controls the seasons in the back with the leap year indicator in front. The development of this coding not only reverses the traditional method used to adjust the indicators but also displays them simultaneously on both the dial and the case back.

The model comes with an 18K rose gold case measuring 43.5mm in diameter and 16mm in height. The case is equipped with sapphire crystals on both sides and is water-resistant up to 30 meters. From the case back, the Equation of Time, seasons, solstices, equinoxes and calendar year can be read.

From the dial of Greubel Forsey QP à Équation, it is now possible to read the 72-hour power reserve offered by the hand-wound movement along the years, hours, minutes, seconds, day of the week, date, and month. Tourbillon is located at 10 o'clock. Markers showing time, hands, power reserve indicator and small seconds are made of gold. The hands have Super-LumiNOVA filling.

A hand-sewn crocodile strap and an 18K rose gold buckle with a hand-embroidered GF logo complement the Greubel Forsey QP à Équation.
