The chronograph legend Omega Speedmaster aims ladies as well as watch enthusiast who like to live the original Speedmaster spirit with its 38mm diameter model family.
Omega Speedmaster is one of the most word on watches in the history of horology. The model, which means much more than being the first wristwatch worn on the moon for the devoted watch aficionados, has been widely acclaimed for a long time. Barely affected by the trends that have changed over the years thanks to its iconic design, Speedmaster continues to evolve with minor updates.
The Omega Speedmaster 38 is a model that has been developed to meet the recent needs of the ever-changing and evolving watch world. For the model, we can also say that it is the new version of the Speedmaster Reduced model which has been sold as the slightly smaller alternative to the Speedmaster Professional. So, why do we need such a model? Regarding the version we have here, the answer is quite simple: An iconic, sporty chronograph decorated with diamonds but not compromised on being elegant. Very few women will say no for such a timepiece. The other versions of the model which are free of feminine accents and designed with masculine details are targeting male users, especially those in the Far East market, that have smaller wrists or find smaller diameter timepieces more attractive. Interestingly, according to today's design concept, 38mm for a sports chronograph specifies the upper limit for women, while it is directly states the lower limit for men. Apparently Omega Speedmaster 38 loves to be around the limits.
Creating a watch design that appeals to both men and women requires experience and a great deal of courage as unisex details may act as deal breakers for some users. Omega on the other hand, seems to achieve the perfect balance with this model.
The Speedmaster 38 Collection has 16 different variations, separated by case materials, strap/bracelet options and dial colors. Directly designed for women, the model we have here is offered in a 38mm diameter stainless steel case with a gem-set tachymeter bezel. The case is equipped with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal on the front side while the rear side is covered with a solid case back which does not allow the movement to be enjoyed. Fortunately, the brand's magnificent Speedmaster figure is so stylish that it compensates the lack of a see-through case back. The model is water resistant to 100 meters.
The light gray dial with Tri-Compax chronograph lay -out draws attention with its softened details. The dial, which is smoothed out by placing the sub-dials on elliptical backgrounds, features a date display at 6 o’clock. The model is powered by the fully in-house self-winding chronograph Caliber Ref. 3330 which features the patented Co-Axial escapement and offers a power reserve of 52 hours.
The model is offered on a brown alligator strap that is secured by an Omega signed folding clasp. There are alternative strap options with different color as well as a metal bracelet.
