One of the most useful as well as rare function of the mechanical watchmaking, is reviving in the case of Oris Big Crown. The new model with alarm function is limited with 250 pieces.
Oris, who has been on the rise in recent years, has been listening to the wishes of watch lovers as it does every year and has shaped its collection around it. One of the most beautiful examples of this is the Big Crown ProPilot with alarm function. The alarm function is both useful and unusual and it is at the top of the complications that we rarely encounter in the mechanical watchmaking. Although, alarm function is not news on the Oris side. The brand has begun to produce watches with alarm in 1940s. And now, alarm function is back on the stage again with ProPilot collection.
The new model takes its place in the legendary Big Crown collection of Oris. Big Crown models were first introduced in 1928 and today it is the second strongest product of the brand after the Diver collection. Case is made of stainless steel, measures 44 mm in diameter and offers 100 meters of water resistance. The watch features two crowns. The one at 2 o’clock position is for time and date functions, while the one at 4 o’clock position is for alarm setting. Bezel’s design is inspired from the turbines of jet-powered aircrafts.
The two basic functions of the piece are highlighted with yellow color. Alarm function can be read with a bright yellow-tipped central hand while the date window can be seen through the opening in the middle of the dial. Legibility of the piece is at the top level. The model features the hand and indice design that we are accustomed to from the ProPilot series.
Cal.910 powers the Oris Big Crown ProPilot Alarm. Even though the mechanism is not visible due to the solid case-back, the Oris Shield figure that is used on the back of the watch has brought some funkiness to the piece.
Watch features a white stitched brown alligator leather strap and stainless steel clasp which is inspired from aircraft’s safety belts. As all the other limited editions of Oris, this model will be presented in a wooden box and be offered with a MSRP of 4.900 CHF.
