Oris continues to produce exclusive and limited models in different themes, and has introduced the new model under the highly praised series Jazz Collection to the likes of watch enthusiasts. Designed to commemorate the famous tenor saxophone virtuoso Dexter Gordon, the new model has a limited production with 1000 pieces only.
Oris, which was succeeded to be one of the most talked-about brands of the year 2016 thanks to its stunning Diver’s 65 model, added a new model to its highly praised collection which is inspired by the magical world of Jazz. The last member of the collection, which featured models tribute to the famous Jazz musicians like John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis, is dedicated to the famous tenor saxophone virtuoso Dexter Gordon, also known as "Long Tall Dex".
“All hour markers feature a letter from the musician’s name and surname. Finally, there is a tiny saxophone figure on the 12 marker of the dial.”
When we look at the specifications of the model, we can see that it has similar details to the other models in the Jazz Collection. The stainless steel case measures 40mm in diameter. Designed in the style of a classic dress watch, all surfaces of the case are finished in mirror polished form.
The case’s contribution to the model’s graceful stance is immediately apparent, with its curved sapphire crystal on the front face and a thin bezel in an elegant form. The elegant case has long smooth lugs which resembles the timepieces Oris produced in the 1950s. The large winding crown signed Oris is designed in accordance with the models overall vintage look. The solid caseback features the Long Tall Dex engraving.
Despite the fact that it is a thematic limited production model, Oris Dexter Gordon has kept the details in a very simple, even clever way, successfully maintaining the modestness of the classic dress watch concept. The second hand over the metallic brown dial has an extending form from the center to each sides to reference to the 1.98m height of the famous musician.
In addition, the second hand is also gold plated to remind Gordon’s instrument. All hour markers feature a letter from the musician’s name and surname. Finally, there is a tiny saxophone figure on the 12 marker of the dial. Oris, with such a thoughtful detail in a concept that offers very limited possibilities for customization, such as dress watch, deserves praise with its Dexter Morgan Limited Edition model.
The model is powered with the Sellita SW 200-1 movement, which we have frequently encountered in entry and intermediate Swiss brands. The caliber beats at 28.800vph and features no extra functions other than the date window.
The limited model comes with a matte brown leather strap and folding clasp made of polished and brushed stainless steel.
The MSRP of the new model is 1800, 00 CHF,and it is planned to reach the stores by January 2017.
