While we are all talking about the COVID-19 epidemic and canceled or postponed watch trade shows, "On-Line" news from Watches & Wonders managed to make all watch enthusiasts smile a bit. No, we won’t be able to see the watches live, will not wear them on our wrists, and take photos of them but we can participate in this event irrespectively of our location and more importantly, we can still see the new models even if on-line.
Panerai, which offers a relatively affordable entry-level price scale and always fascinates the watch aficionados with Italian genes, introduced its novelties under the Watches & Wonders 2020 platform. The brand seems to have succeeded in offering models that will be rather frequently mentioned throughout 2020, just like every year.
Before moving on to the short introductions of the new Panerai models, I would like to add the following to the article; This year's trend seems to be to produce with high-tech materials that brands themselves develop and/or follow up on developing technology.
Let's get to Panerai Watches & Wonders 2020 novelties...
Among the introduced watches, two models especially attract my attention: Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01117 and Luminor Marina Carbotech PAM01118. Both models offer a 70-year warranty, praising the phosphor feature, and carry the luminescence, which is usually limited to the dial, in many different areas, from the strap stitches to the winding crown, the crown guard and the movement bridge. You will be noticed with these models, which are limited to 270 units each, especially in the dark.
Extreme conditions and passion for exploration... Yes, we will talk about a model attributed to Mike Horn, Panerai Submersible EcoPangaea Tourbillon GMT 50mm Mike Horn Edition (PAM01108). This model is not only a limited edition of 5 units but also offers its owners a very special occasion; the users of the model will have the opportunity to have a unique experience in the Arctic region with the modern-times explorer Mike Horn.
Another 70-year warranty timepiece is the Panerai Luminor Marina Fibratech (PAM01119). The watch will only be available in Panerai boutiques around the world. PAM01119 has a new and very bright design thanks to Super-LumiNOVA, which can be described as a fusion of the brand's historical and cultural heritage.
Panerai takes the Luminor one-step further into the future with the new Luminor Marina Fibratech - 44mm (PAM01663) using a new high-tech alloy based on basalt fiber. This material, which is used in the production of the new Panerai Fibratech watches, finds itself a place in the watch industry for the first time with this model. Made from natural and eco-sustainable raw fibers, Fibratech is an alloy with highly remarkable physical and mechanical properties.
Meet the new Panerai Luminor Marina DMLS - 44mm (PAM01662). The new interpretation of the iconic Luminor Marina comes with a surprisingly light, yet incredibly durable case. The case is produced with Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology. In this three-dimensional printing process, the high-power fiber optic laser-sintered titanium powder grows at a scale of 30 microns (0.03 mm) and takes on a uniform shape.
The red gold case meets Italian design... Luminor Marina Panerai Goldtech - 44mm (PAM01112) has a sophisticated and individual identity. The magic of red gold lies in the formula developed by Panerai Laboratorio di Idee, which contains a high proportion of copper and some platinum. The materials in the alloy add color intensity to the design while increasing its oxidation resistance.
Panerai and Luna Rossa are celebrating their joint mission with a new model, Luminor Luna Rossa GMT - 44mm (PAM01036). This model benefits from high-tech materials used by both the brand and the Luna Rossa team. Titanium, which draws attention to its hypoallergenic properties, attractive lightness, and corrosion resistance, is one of them. The carbon-based DLC coating process also increases the waterproofing feature of titanium.
