Rado presents its legendary model DiaStar to watch enthusiasts again on its 60th anniversary. The model family, which has been reproduced with details remaining faithful to the original, also includes a special version emphasizing the 60th anniversary of the concept.
The model, which appeared in the catalogs of the famous brand for the first time in 1962, quickly became popular with its elliptical case and scratch-resistant material. Equipped with sapphire crystal, which was considered a very important innovation in the 1960s, the model offered a degree of resistance against scratches with its carbide tungsten alloy upper body, which no other model could offer until that time. The success of DiaStar was also the starting point of Rado's orientation towards materials that offer resistance to wear. Continuing on its way with the motto of Master of Materials, the brand has always maintained its leading position in bringing alternative materials to the watchmaking industry.
The new collection includes four different references. DiaStar Original 60-Year, one of the models that share the same design language, differs from other versions with its unique nuances.
All four models come in elliptical-shaped cases measuring 38mm x 45mm. The characteristic bezel made of Carbide Tungsten in the classic DiaStar is replaced by modern bezels made of Ceramos material in the new models. The middle part of the cases, the crown, and the case back are made of stainless steel. While the DiaStar Original models have a flat sapphire crystal on the front, the DiaStar Original 60-Year model uses a faceted sapphire crystal, which draws attention with its hexagonal form. All models are manufactured to withstand 100 meters of water pressure.
Among the new models, DiaStar Originals are home to dials consisting of louvered vertical sections and offering gradient color transitions. The dials, which attract attention with their nostalgic design, are offered in blue, gray, and green color options. At the 6 o'clock position of the dials, there are vertically placed day and date windows, one of the signature details of the model family. On the dial, which does not have indices on it, baton-style hands display the time.
Diastar Original 60-Year comes with a gray dial prepared following its modern design. The hour markers on the dial with a date window at 6 o'clock add integrity to the simple and modern design of the dial with their perforated round form. The time display is provided by Dauphine-style hands designed exclusively for the model.
All models are powered by the Caliber R764 based on the Powermatic80, which is considered one of the most successful movements introduced by the Swatch Group recently. The automatic movement draws attention with its high-tech components such as the Nivachron hairspring, as well as the 80-hour power reserve it provides when fully wound.
DiaStar Original comes with a metal bracelet consisting of H-shaped links, while Diastar Original 60-Year is offered with two different strap options: metal Milanese and gray textile.
