The Rolex Daytona, considered one of the most important chronograph models of the time, became a guest in the pages of the Baselworld 2016 fair with its blue dial 18K white gold version: The ROLEX Daytona Ref.116509 Blue Dial.
Prior to commencing the review, we suggest you to take a look at our detailed review of the latest stainless steel Daytona with the Cerachrom bezel upgrade, debuting during Baselworld 2016, and becoming one of the most influenced Rolex novelties recently. You can also find our article on the Rolex Daytona's history here.
Daytona, one of the most talked-about sports models of all time since its first introduction in 1963, spent the 2016 season with significant innovations. The most noteworthy version of the new Daytona models presented to the audience in Baselworld 2016 fair was the 116500LN, which brought a brand new breath to the collection with its ceramic bezel update, but the 18K solid white gold Ref. 116509 was a pretty big hit as well with its newly added blue dial.
“The model looks very sporty thanks to the red circles placed inside the chronograph sub-dials. In the meantime, it also retains the bezel design, which is unique to the solid gold versions exclusively.”
The most important "innovation" of the model is its blue dial, a familiarity in different models within the Rolex family. The blue tone, which is slightly darker than the cobalt blue used in the famous Yellow Rolesor and 18K Yellow Gold Submariner models, matches the 18K white gold case and bracelet perfectly. I think this blue tone, which I find quite successful in the Yachtmaster Ref.116622, looks amazing when matched with the natural color of white gold, which is a tad darker than stainless steel. The model looks very sporty thanks to the red circles placed inside the chronograph sub-dials. In the meantime, it also retains the bezel design, which is unique to the solid gold versions exclusively.
The Rolex Daytona Ref.116509, with its solid white gold Oyster bracelet and mirror polished center links, comes with a 5-year warranty as does all models of the brand.
If the "white gold" concept bodes well with you and you are tempted to purchase a Rolex Daytona with a sunray blue dial, be sure to pay a visit to the nearest official Rolex retailer, as there is no doubt that your expectations will be exceeded ...
