TAG Heuer, one of the leading brands in the world of luxury Swiss watchmaking, is in the spotlight once again with the Carrera Caliber Heuer 02T COSC model, which has become one of the most affordable Tourbillon models in the watch industry with its extremely competitive price tag.
Officially launched at the Baselworld 2016 trade show, TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02T COSC was considered as a perfect example for the brand’s new strategy under the legendary watch guru Jean Claude Biver’s management. The model, which became one of the most accessible Tourbillon timepieces manufactured by a luxury Swiss watchmaker with its highly competitive starting price, is the guest of our pages. The model we have here is the Ref. CAR5A8Y.FT6072 from the collection which offers a set of 10 different Carrera Calibre Heuer 02T COSC models.
The model is offered in a 45mm diameter case made of satin brushed Grade 5 titanium alloy. The case is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and a tachymeter scale bezel on the front side made of black ceramic, arguably the most popular alternative material in the industry recently. The case is accompanied by a winding crown and a pair of chronograph pushers designed and manufactured in line with the overall concept ad is water resistant to 100 meters, which is an excellent value for a sports chronograph with Tourbillon.
The dial of the model is designed partially perforated with an industrial yet sporty image sporting black and titanium gray tones. Black opaline dial is laid-out in Tri-Compax chronograph form and accompanied with black Super LumiNOVA applied hands and applique hour markers. The 60 minutes/seconds inner chapter finished in black offers precise time display where the Tourbillon cage rests at 6 o’clock.
The most important feature of the model is undoubtedly the movement inside. The model is powered by the fully manufacture Caliber Heuer 02 automatic chronograph movement with Tourbillon. 33 jewels movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a power reserve of 65 hours when fully wound. Measuring 31mm in diameter, which is a pretty compact size considering its features, the movement is Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) certified.
The version we opted for the review (Ref. CAR5A8Y.FT6072) comes on a brown calf strap with vulcanized rubber lining. The strap is secured with a TAG Heuer signed folding clasp made of black coated titanium.
