Min. ReadUlysse Nardin, a historical powerhouse in maritime timekeeping, strengthens its bond with the iconic Vendée Globe race, a solo, non-stop, around-the-world sailing challenge known as the “Everest of the Seas.” To honor this partnership, Ulysse Nardin unveils the Diver Net Vendée Globe—the brand’s most sustainable watch to date.
The Vendée Globe, held every four years, will launch on November 10th, where 40 skippers will embark on an arduous 45,000 km journey from Les Sables-d’Olonne, crossing Cape Hope, Leeuwin, and Cape Horn. This epic voyage highlights the ocean’s fragile state amidst global warming, underscoring the importance of sustainability—core to the Diver Net's design.
The Diver Net Vendée Globe incorporates recycled materials throughout its 44mm, 300m water-resistant case. Following the lead of the 2020 Diver Net concept, its case is crafted from 95% recycled steel and integrates CarbonFoil and NyloFoil recycled fishing nets sourced from Les Sables-d’Olonne. The rotating dive bezel uses excess carbon fiber from monohull race boats, while red and blue accents on the grey sandblasted dial mirror the official Vendée Globe colors.
This limited edition also includes a grey-tinted sapphire caseback, laser-etched with the race’s route, exposing elements of the UN-118 automatic movement. The watch is powered by a DiamonSil escapement and silicium hairspring, beating at 28,800vph with a 60-hour power reserve.
Limited to 300 pieces, the Diver Net Vendée Globe is available with two eco-conscious strap options: a red fabric strap partially made from recycled fishing nets and a grey strap made entirely from recycled nets, each with a Velcro-style closure.
