Here we are with the Arnold & Son DBG Equation GMT – a unique timepiece that was designed in “twin” concept in both cosmetic and technical terms.
Arnold & Son, which has been very successful particularly in the past few years, is the guest of our Hands On corner with the DBG Equation GMT model introduced in 2012. The model, which shares the same design motto with the highly acclaimed Globetrotter model introduced earlier this year at the Baselworld exhibition, attracts attention with its extra ordinary dial lay-out and hi-end craftsmanship.
The model is offered in a fully mirror polished stainless steel case measuring 44mm in diameter. The main reason for the size of the case which looks more like dress watch in terms of visual details, is the movement(s) ticking inside. There is not much to say about the 30-meter waterproof case. The case is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both faces as well as a pair of winding crowns located at each side.
The model’s dial, which reminds the open-heart style with its partially perforated design, offers details that tribute to the “twin” concept of the timepiece. The balances are located side by side at 5 and 7 o’clock while the small 12/24h display is present at 12 o’clock.
In the upper half of the dial, two different time zones can be followed through the large sub-dials placed next to each other. Although the dominant symmetry of the dial continues in these main sub-dials, Arnold & Son did not neglect to offer the user some minor but distinctive details. The left sub-dial features Roman numeral indices with skeleton tipped hands while the one on the right is accompanied with Arabic numerals and solid tipped hands. The movement’s main plate is adorned with Cotes de Genève patterns on the lower half while the background that hosts the time zone sub-dials is finished with a grainy surface.
The model beats with the manufacture Caliber Ref. A&S1209. 42 jewels hand-wound movement beats at a frequency of 3Hz (21.600vph) and offers a power reserve of 40 hours when fully wound. The main plate of the movement is equipped with two barrels. Each barrel is connected to its own gear train, own escapement and balance.
Arnold & Son DBG Equation GMT comes on a hand-sewn black alligator strap that is secured by an Arnold & Son signed pin buckle made of stainless steel.
