Min. ReadGrand Seiko’s Evolution 9 Collection expands with the SLGH027, featuring a striking ice-blue dial inspired by Mount Iwate. Building on the success of the White Birch model, which debuted in 2020, the SLGH027 introduces a fresh textured dial that echoes the rugged mountain terrain, offering a deeper and more dynamic interpretation of the White Birch aesthetic.
This new model features a textured dial resembling the mountain’s surface when viewed from above, with a more pronounced, irregular pattern compared to the original. The ice-blue hue enhances the dial’s allure, complemented by a blued steel seconds hand for added sophistication. As with other Evolution 9 pieces, the SLGH027 has oversized, faceted applied markers and hands, ensuring excellent legibility.
The watch boasts the same well-known 40mm case dimensions as the White Birch, with a thickness of 11.7mm and a length of 47mm. It is crafted from Ever-Brilliant Steel, a proprietary alloy that is shinier and more resistant to corrosion than traditional stainless steel. The case features a brushed surface, with polished Zaratsu accents, and is topped with a box-shaped sapphire crystal. The transparent caseback, screw-in crown, and 100m water resistance complete the watch’s robust specifications.
Inside the SLGH027, the advanced calibre 9SA5 automatic movement powers the watch, incorporating Grand Seiko’s Dual Impulse Escapement and a free-sprung balance, ensuring high precision with a 5Hz frequency. The movement offers a generous power reserve of 80 hours, thanks to two barrels in sequence. The watch is completed by an Ever-Brilliant Steel bracelet with an 18k rose gold GS logo clasp.
With only 1,200 pieces available, the SLGH027 is a limited edition set to be released in May 2025 through Grand Seiko boutiques and select retailers.
