Min. ReadJaeger-LeCoultre is redefining the Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater with the newly developed Calibre 953. This latest movement, crafted entirely in-house, brings a fresh perspective to the complication, enhancing both mechanical innovation and artistic expression. Limited to just 30 pieces, this exclusive timepiece highlights the Reverso’s Art Deco charm and its ability to push the boundaries of haute horlogerie.
Born in 1931 to withstand the rigors of polo, the Reverso quickly evolved beyond its sporting origins, captivating enthusiasts with its dual-sided case and elegant design. For six decades, it remained a time-only model until the 1990s, when Jaeger-LeCoultre began integrating complications. The 1994 Reverso Minute Repeater marked a milestone, introducing the Maison’s first rectangular minute repeater movement and pioneering the miniaturization of this revered complication for a wristwatch.
Jaeger-LeCoultre has been refining minute repeaters since 1870, crafting nearly 100 such masterpieces before the turn of the century. Over time, the Manufacture has continued to perfect both the acoustic quality and mechanical precision of these chiming movements. Notable innovations include crystal gongs (2005), which enhance sound clarity by connecting directly to the sapphire crystal, and trébuchet hammers (2009), which optimize energy efficiency while maintaining chime volume. In 2021, a breakthrough mechanism eliminated the silent interval between hour and minute chimes, ensuring a seamless auditory experience.
Calibre 953, entirely conceived and produced in-house, integrates seven patents, including advancements that enhance chime quality. With a 48-hour power reserve, it ensures uninterrupted performance for this energy-intensive complication.
The new Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater stands out with two distinct dials. The front dial showcases a teal blue grand feu enamel surface over a hand-guilloché barleycorn pattern, creating an illusion of movement as light plays across its texture. The intricate enamelling process takes a total of 12 hours, meticulously performed by Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Métiers Rares™ artisans.
The reverse dial is skeletonized, revealing the complex minute repeater mechanism in motion. Floating faceted indexes add depth, while brushed and grained finishes contrast against the warm pink gold case. A blue-lacquered bridge spanning the movement complements the front dial’s hue.
A redesigned sliding actuator, seamlessly integrated into the case, initiates the chimes while maintaining ergonomic refinement. The 18k pink gold case is paired with a black alligator strap, and an innovative folding buckle—crafted from 30 grams of gold—offers micro-adjustments for a perfect fit.
Celebrating Jaeger-LeCoultre’s pursuit of mechanical and aesthetic excellence, the Reverso Tribute Minute Repeater embodies the Maison’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of horology.
