At this year’s Baselworld exhibition, Omega was highly praised especially with the additions made to the Seamaster and Speedmaster collection. Recently, the Swiss watchmaker showed up with a retro inspired model which tributes to the legendary Semaster Collection’s relation with Venice.
In particular, the 1957 Trilogy Limited Edition model and the relatively affordable Omega Railmaster collection, which were produced in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the brand’s iconic product line Speedmaster, were mentioned most often during the exhibition. The latest novelty came out from the Seamaster Collection in both stainless steel and Omega’s patented gold alloy 18K Sedna Gold.
The history of the Seamaster Collection dates back to 1950s. The legendary seahorse symbol of the collection, which carries traces of Venice, also appears in the same period. The Neptune seahorse figure, which has been noticed by the brand’s design team on both sides of the gondolas while they were in Venice, caused a new idea to emerge and become the symbol of the Seamaster collection from 1957.
The 39.5mm diameter case features highly rounded lines. Both versions, made of stainless steel and 18K Sedna Gold, offer a water resistance rating of 50 meters. The winding crown is located at 3 o’clock position and it is inspired by the dome of St.Mark’s Basilica. The case sports a see-through caseback with a laser etched Seamaster symbol on the sapphire crystal display.
Omega preferred the white color dial for both versions with the date window at 6 o’clock. The dial is designed in a domed form and it is equipped with 18K Sedna Gold hands and indices which provides enough contrast for legibility. However, it is not possible to say the same for dark environments as there is no phosphor material used in the dial.
The new model is powered by the brands in-house and METAS approved movement Caliber Ref.8801. 35 jewels self-winding movement beats at 25.200vph and offers 55 hours power reserve when fully wound. The movement in the 18K Sedna Gold version features bridges and oscillating rotor made of gold as well. Thanks to the sapphire crystal display, the movement can be enjoyed.
The models are offered on alligator straps in black of brown with contrast stitching depending on the version. The straps are accompanied with folding clasps made of 18K Sedna Gold or stainless steel.
Omega Seamaster Edizione Venezia models will be sold in the brand’s Venice Boutique only. The prices are 5,900 EUR for stainless steel version and 13,200 EUR for 18K Sedna Gold version.
